Your Base for Adventure

Conveniently located near downtown Revelstoke, Swiss Chalet Motel is walkable distance to restaurants, cafés, shops, local attractions, and year-round outdoor adventure.

A Swiss Influence

It’s a lesser-known part of Canadian history that with the arrival of the railway came expert Swiss mountain guides. Brought over from the Swiss Alps, they worked for Canadian Pacific Railway hotels between 1899 and 1954.

These guides led hundreds of first ascents and introduced safe climbing techniques to thousands of early explorers. They helped shape an appreciation for the Rocky Mountains as a place to be both explored and respected.

After visiting the Canadian Rockies, mountaineer Edward Whymper, known for the first ascent of the Matterhorn, described the region as “50 Switzerland’s in One.”

In that same spirit, we welcome guests from around the world to enjoy the mountains and everything they have to offer.

Railway History

You may notice the motel’s proximity to the Canadian Pacific Railway. The railway has long been part of life in Revelstoke and played a major role in the town’s growth.

Freight trains still pass through regularly, and for many, it’s simply part of the local atmosphere. If you’re a light sleeper, we recommend bringing earplugs or making use of the ones we provide.

Revelstoke also holds an important place in Canadian railway history. It’s here that the last spike of the Canadian Pacific Railway was driven on November 7, 1885, marking the completion of the country’s transcontinental rail line.

If you’re interested in learning more, the Revelstoke Railway Museum is located nearby and well worth a visit.
